MANILA, Philippines—Two counsels of detained real estate magnate Delfin Lee were slapped with obstruction of justice charges filed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

‎Police Director Benjamin Magalong filed criminal charges against Lee’s lawyers William Rivera and Gilbert Requiso for questioning the validity of their clients arrest warrant when Lee was seized by the police last March 6.

Lee was arrested for syndicated estafa, a nonbailable offense, in connection with the Pag-ibig housing scam worth P6.6 billion.

Magalong said Thursday in an interview that he personally filed the case before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office against Rivera and Requiso.

“If you will remember, they repeatedly made it appear that the arrest warrant against Lee was already lifted. They made us believe their claims,” he said.

The lawyers were claiming that the arrest warrant served to Lee had already been quashed by the Court of Appeals.
