MANILA, Philippines—The appointment of Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman was recommended on Wednesday for confirmation by a panel of the powerful Commission on Appointments (CA).
No member of the CA’s committees on labor, employment and social welfare objected when a member moved to recommend Soliman’s confirmation for plenary approval.
ABONO Partylist Representative Conrado Estrella, chairman of the House of Representatives’ contingent to the CA, said Soliman’s confirmation would be tackled in the plenary next week.
Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, who wrote Estrella about her plan to block Soliman’s confirmation by invoking Section 20 of the CA’s rules, was absent during the hearing.
Estrella said Santiago must have to be present when she invokes this rule in the plenary next week.
