A man wanted for murder and a shop owner figured in a shootout in barangay Poblacion, Talisay City, southern Cebu, yesterday afternoon.
Police said Rene “Tata” Barangan, 30, and a certain Pasio were wounded in the gunfire.
Barangan was brought to a hospital, while Pasio escaped.
It was not immediately known what triggered the gunfight which broke out at 1:25 p.m. and lasted for 15 minutes, said police.
Police said Barangan runs a money lending business and Pasio was one of his clients.
Barangan, who was shot in the leg and had a graze wound in the head, was slumped on the ground when police arrived. A .357 revolver and a .38 revolver were found near him.
Cristobal Yap, a resident in the barangay, told police the guns were owned by Barangan. Police are monitoring hospitals where Pasio may have gone to seek treatment.
Barangan was brought by members of the Talisay Rescue Emergency Action Team to the Talisay District Hospital before he was transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City. Police went to to VSMMC to serve an arrest warrant against Barangan.
PO3 Benedicto Lasque of the Talisay police said Barangan was accused of killing his live-in partner two years ago.
Police said Barangan buried the woman’s body at the back of their house in sitio Litmon.
The body of the victim was unearthed while Barangan was nowhere to be found.
Police said Barangan underwent facial surgery to conceal his identity.
