Today, June 2, is the 7th death anniversary of National Scientist and “Father of Nuclear Medicine” Paulo C. Campos. Born on July 27, 1921, Campos is known for establishing the first Radioisotope Laboratory and Medical Research Laboratory, both at the University of the Philippines’ College of Medicine; the first Thyroid Clinic at the Philippine General Hospital; and the first Comprehensive Community Health Program in the country. He is also the founder of Medical Center Manila and Emilio Aguinaldo College in Manila. Campos was named a National Scientist by President Corazon Aquino in 1989. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
