Magallanes Interchange closed 11pm-12mn Thursday

MANILA, Philippines — A portion of the Magallanes Interchange heading to the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) will be closed from 11 p.m. to 12 midnight on Thursday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.

The one-hour road closure will be part of the preparations for the five-month repair of the said elevated highway.

‎Francis Tolentino, MMDA chairman, said in a statement that the extensive strengthening, repair, and asphalt overlay of the Magallanes Interchange may start on Friday.

The repair works will be done in five stages and only from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. every day.

This would include ‎the replacement of railings, steel expansion joints, and patching up of cracks, among others.

“What we want to do here is to see how it would gravely affect the vehicular traffic. As much as possible, we don’t want the motoring public to suffer. We have to be careful and study this matter seriously,” Tolentino said.

Earlier Thursday, the MMDA asked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to ‎deploy traffic flagmen to assist motorists and inform them of the closure.

Tolentino also directed the DPWH to put up signs indicating the completion date of the road repair.
