MANILA, Philippines—Water level in some major dams continued to drop on Thursday, despite a reprieve brought by occasional rains the previous days.
Angat Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan was at 175.36 meters above sea level from 175.76 meters Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
This level is still below the critical level of 180 meters.
The Angat reservoir supplies over 90 percent of water needs in Metro Manila.
Other dams in Luzon whose water levels continued to fall include:
La Mesa – 77.49 meters from 77.52 meters
Ambuklao – 741.48 meters from 741.50 meters
Magat – 166.57 meters from 166.58 meters
Caliraya – 286.46 meters from 286.72
The dams in Luzon whose water levels increased are:
Ipo – 99.86 meters from 99.83 meters
Binga – 568.43 meters from 568.19 meters
San Roque – 236.59 meters from 236.33 meters
Pantabangan – 182.47 meters from 182.43 meters
The government has turned to cloud-seeding operations to induce rains and improve water levels in the reservoirs in Luzon and Mindanao. The Philippine Air Force has also pledged to help in the cloud-seeding operations.
