CEBU CITY—A robbery suspect was gunned down on Friday, shortly after he posted bail.
Justin Avencena, 20, died on the spot after he was repeatedly shot by one of two men on board a motorcycle, according to Insp. Wilson Abot, chief of station 5 of the Mandaue City police.
Avencena, who had been linked to at least six robberies in Mandaue City, was at the Palace of Justice in Lapu-Lapu to post bail for robbery charges filed against him.
He and a cousin, Edwin Callo, boarded a taxi headed for Mandaue after posting bail. The taxi was on Marcelo Fernan Bridge when a motorcycle caught up with it and stopped near where Avencena was seated.
Avencena got off after seeing one man from the motorcycle pointing a gun at him.
He tried to flee, climbing into a cargo truck and moving to the driver’s side of the truck through its window.
The driver of the truck was forced to slam on the brakes when he saw two men blocking the vehicle’s path.
The driver and two helpers ducked for cover as the men opened fire. The bullets ripped the truck windshield and found their mark on Avencena. He had bullet wounds in the head and chest.
