MANILA, Philippines—A captive of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was released and found abandoned at the Jolo Airport in Sulu on Wednesday morning, nearly four months after she was kidnapped.
Businesswoman Sugar Dianne Esperanza Buenviaje, 33, was freed by her ASG abductors who kidnapped her in Mapun Island, Tawi Tawi province on February 7, the police and the marines said.
Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr., Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Kidnapping Task Force chief in Sulu, said Buenviaje was left by her captors at the airport around 8 a.m.
Cruz said the ASG rebels did not ask for ransom in exchange for her release.
Buenviaje is an owner of Cagayan Enterprises General Merchandise in Mapun Island. Her business deals with a ferry service with routes plying Sulu, Zamboanga, and Palawan.
The police official said the businesswoman was brought by the authorities to Zamboanga City to undergo debriefing and medical examination.
