MANILA, Philippines – Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada lashed out at the media Monday for focusing only on select legislators allegedly involved in the pork barrel scam, saying that it was “unfair.”
“It turns out there are a lot of legislators involved, a lot—hundreds. It is unfair for the three legislators involved in the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam that they published our photos,” Estrada said.
“[Whistleblower Benhur] Luy gave his files to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Philippine Daily Inquirer, but what came out on papers [are] only three senators when there are so many others involved,” he said.
Estrada requested that Luy’s files that were given to Inquirer be issued a subpoena because the reports published by the Inquirer were based on those files.
Estrada, along with Juan Ponce Enrile and Ramon Revilla Jr., are facing charges of plunder before the Sandiganbayan for their alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam.
“Why are the three of us the only ones being published on newspapers? It seems unfair. We can’t just allow a newspaper publishing our photos and names without solid evidence,” Estrada said.
“We also have an honor and a name to protect,” he said.
