5 NPA rebels killed in Sorsogon

Manila, Philippines—At least five New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed and two others were captured after the engaged the Philippine Army in Brgy. Balocawe, Matnog, Sorsogon early Friday.

Lieutenant Colonel Ramon Zagala, spokesman of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), said soldiers from the 903rd Infantry Brigade clashed with 25 communist rebels at 5:44 a.m.

Zagala said that among those killed was Ka Randy, the alleged leader of the NPA’s Sorsogon provincial unit, while the four others have yet to be identified.

He said government troops recovered five high-powered firearms in the site of the encounter.
