MANILA, Philippines―A magnitude 4 earthquake struck off Calayan island in Cagayan province at 4:50 p.m. Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
The quake was centered 24 kilometers southeast of the northern Philippine municipality at a depth of 89 kilometers.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injury.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
