California kidnap victim found after 10 years—police
SANTA ANA, California—Police said that a man they had arrested on suspicion of kidnapping a girl 10 years ago got false identification papers for her from Mexico so he could marry her.
The girl was 15 when she disappeared from Santa Ana, southeast of Los Angeles, in 2004.
Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said Wednesday that Isidro Garcia got the documents in 2007 as part of his elaborate efforts to hide her age and name.
In 2012, he fathered a child with her.
Bertagna said she tried to escape twice but was severely beaten.
