CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna—Authorities unearthed 157 pieces of World War II vintage bombs from a farm lot in Calamba City, Laguna, on Thursday, the provincial police director said Friday.

In a phone interview, Senior. Supt. Gilbert Cruz, head of the Laguna police, said the 75 mm vintage bombs were dug up from a farm in Barangay Makiling.

He said the bombs were found after Anicia Torres, a resident in the area, reported the find to the police.

“The children were playing in the area and accidentally dug up the bombs. They even tried to sell them to a junk shop,” Cruz said.

He said the children first found eight pieces of the unexploded bombs. Bomb experts dug up the same spot further and unearthed 149 pieces more.

The area was formerly an American garrison.

“These are still dangerous and may still explode,” said Cruz.

The bombs were temporarily kept for safety at the Laguna police headquarters and would be turned over to Camp O’Donell in Tarlac for proper disposal.
