Metro Manila police force has 9,000 openings for 2014

MANILA, Philippines—The Metro Manila police force is still looking for new blood.

Superintendent Robert Domingo, the spokesman of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), revealed on Wednesday that since they called for new applicants in March, only 3,500 have applied, and that number would still be whittled down during the ongoing processing.

The number of applicants fell far short of the 9,000 openings available this year in the force, Domingo noted. Currently, the Metro Manila police force has around 18,000 personnel.

According to Domingo, the NCRPO has a 1 to 600 policeman-civilian ratio, short of the ideal ratio of 1 to 500.

In an advisory in March, the NCRPO said applicants must be Filipino,  aged 21 to 30,  and college graduates, with a certificate of good moral character from their schools.

Applicants must have passed at least one of the eligibility exams for the National Police Commission, the Professional Regulation Commission, or the Civil Service Commission.

Male applicants must be at least 5.31 feet (1.62 meters) tall, while females must be at least 5.15 feet (1.57 meters) tall. Applicants must not be more or less than five kilograms from the ideal weight corresponding to one’s height, age, and sex.

Applicants can submit their accomplished PO1 Recruitment Application forms, which can be downloaded from the Philippine National Police website, to their nearest police district Personnel and Human Resource Development Division (DPHRDD).

Applicants must bring their accomplished Civil Service Personal Data Sheet (PDS) with two 2×2 ID pictures and one whole body picture with a white background, two valid IDs, authenticated birth certificates, transcript of records and their diploma, certificate of eligibility and board rating, and local clearances.

The DPHRDD will conduct the initial screening and interviews for recommendation to the NCRPO Personnel Records and Management Division. Applicants will undergo the neuro-psychiatric exam, the physical agility test, medical tests, and the final board interview to be conducted by the chairman of the screening committee,  NCRPO officers and representatives from Napolcom and non-government organizations.

The NCRPO encourages applicants who have stellar scholastic records, who are computer literate and are licensed drivers, and are residents of Metro Manila.
