MANILA, Philippines – A day after the Makati court denied Janet Lim-Napoles’ request for extended stay in the hospital, her doctors claimed that she was suffering from vaginal bleeding.
“The recommendation now of the medical team is to defer discharge first and to give antibiotics…and hopefully the bleeding will stop and there will be no more complications afterwards,” said Dr. Florentina Villanueva, head of the obstetrics and gynecological department of the Ospital ng Makati.
Napoles underwent a two-hour surgery in April to remove her uterus and two ovaries and cure her of “severe adenomyosis with multiple adenomyomata.”
Rare case
Napoles’ chief physician Dr. Efren Domingo said during the televised press conference called it an “evolution of her complication.” He said the latest blood exam of the businesswoman showed normal blood parameters though the bleeding itself was a rare occurrence.
“Sa aking 28 years of gyne-onco practice, isa o dalawa pa lang ang ganito namin na kaso. Pangkaraniwan (ang pagdudugo ay nangyayari) Day 17-20 (after surgery) nangyayari ito. This is Day 29-30 almost,” he said.
(In my 28 years of gyne-onco practice, we have encountered only one or two such cases. Normally bleeding happens during Day 17-20. This is Day 29-30 almost.)
“I regret to state [that] I don’t know how soon she will recover and how long she will have to stay in a hospital,” Domingo added.
“Gayunpaman, binabantayan namin sya upang ito’y hindi mag-worsen. Dapat unawain na sa kondisyon na ganito, it requires hospitalization…” he said.
(Nevertheless, we are monitoring her condition so it won’t worsen. People should understand that her condition requires hospitalization.)
