MANILA, Philippines – An official of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3) has admitted that the service interruptions that bogged down the train is caused by its obsolete equipment.
During Wednesday’s transportation committee hearing in the House of Representatives, General Manager Al Vitangcol said the equipment of the MRT is 15 years old.
Contractors thus find a difficult time looking for spare parts of the obsolete equipment, Vitangcol said.
“The recent problem in the mainline is due to technical problem partly due to obsolescence,” he told the lawmakers.
“Our equipment is 15 years old. It has not seen refurbishment,” Vitangcol added.
