MANILA, Philippines — An official from the Department of Education (DepEd) said public schools still lacked the manpower to provide enough security for the students this coming school year.
During a transportation committee hearing in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, DepEd National Capital Region assistant regional director Ponciano Menguito said public schools still rely on guards from the local governments.
This is unlike in private schools that employ private security guards, he added.
For their part, Senior Superintendent Cornelio Barrios of the Philippine National Police Directorate of Operations said they plan to deploy police assistance desk in all public schools.
The school year starts on June 2.
