Rama to build case against flyovers to P-Noy

CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama yesterday said he plans to elevate his case against the two flyover projects to the Regional Development Council and President Benigno Aquino III himself.

Rama said he wanted the RDC to be aware of opposition from businessmen and other sectors on the two infrastructure projects proposed along the intersections of M.J. Cuenco and General Maxilom Avenue and Gorordo Avenue and Archbishop Reyes Avenue.

The mayor said he would also follow up of the letter he earlier sent Aquino.

“What we need in Cebu now is road widening,” Rama said.

He said roads like Hernan Cortes Avenue, the vicinity of N. Bacalso to Bulacao and Cuenco Avenue needs  widening.

He also said a road should be opened from Escario Street to V. Rama Avenue.

Last Thursday, Rama convened the RDC’s Infrastructure Development Committee (IDC) to discuss the flyover projects for Cebu City.

The IDC passed a resolution calling for a review of the projects to determine how this would affect the JICA Study on the Master Plan for High Standard Highway Network that was completed last year.

They also said the projects may have a bearing on the Development of Public Transportation Strategic Plan for Metro Cebu by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), which will be completed next month.

Rama said pending its review, the construction projects should be put on hold. /Chief of Reporters Doris C. Bongcac
