ROBBERS LEAVE CEBU
AFTER their arrival in Cebu was announced to the media, robbers from Ozamiz City have left the province, a Cebu police official said.
Senior Supt. Melvin Buenafe, Cebu City police chief, said the announcement of their arrival in Cebu may have prompted the robbers to leave.
Senior Supt. Louie Oppos, deputy regional director for operation of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas, earlier opposed the announcement as it may only cause panic.

MAN GUNNED DOWN IN TALISAY
A MAN was shot dead by an unidentified assailant in barangay Tabunok, Talisay City, southern Cebu, at dawn yesterday.
The victim was identified only as a certain Bukay, a native of Negros Occidental.
Police said the victim was walking along a road in sitio Mananga when he came across a man who, without a word, shot him in the chest.

MAN CHARGED WITH RAPE
A 25-year-old man was accused of raping a 17-year-old girl after they had a drinking session in barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City, last Wednesday night.
A rape complaint was filed yesterday against Ruben Aragon, 25, at the Mandaue City Prosecutors’ Office.
According to police investigation, Aragon, a resident of barangay Tipolo, and the girl had a drinking session with their friends.
The girl told police that when their friends left, Aragon flagged down a taxi and brought her to a motel in barangay Banilad where she was allegedly raped.
The girl said the man later brought her to Tipolo and was asked to ride a jeepney on her way home to Liloan town.
The girl said she sought help from the jeepney driver, who brought her to the City Social Welfare Services.
Police conducted a follow-up operation and arrested the man in Tipolo.

BANK WORKER DIES IN ROAD ACCIDENT
A FEMALE bank employee was killed after she was run over by a passenger jeepney in barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City, last Thursday night.
Maria Blesila Bantique Luna, who worked at Banco De Oro (BDO) in Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City, sustained severe injuries in the body.
Luna was about to cross M.C. Briones Street on her way home when a motorcycle hit her.
Luna fell on the ground and was run over by a passenger jeepney driven by Michael Ababa, 24, of Talisay City.
Luna was brought to the the Mandaue City Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The driver of the motorcycle sped off, while Ababa was arrested by police.
Joy Saa, head of the BPO Trust Banking Department, said Luna started working in BDO as a provisionary employee in January.
