Village chief arrested for drug possession

MANILA, Philippines—A local government official was nabbed by anti-narcotic agents and police after he was caught hiding packs of illegal drugs in his Aklan residence.

Isidro Mayor Bune, barangay (village) chairman of Pinamuk-an village, New Washington, Aklan, was found possessing 10 sachets of shabu, or methamphetamine hydrochloride.

Chief Superintendent Josephus Angan, Western Visayas Police regional director‎, said in a statement Thursday that joint forces of the Aklan Provincial Police and Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested Bune ‎around 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Also seized in the operation were P1,000 cash, one brown wallet, and one unit of a smartphone.‎

The village chief and the seized pieces of evidence are currently under the custody of New Washington Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.
