Did you know: Jose Nepomuceno

Today is the 121st birth anniversary of movie producer and director Jose Nepomuceno. Born in Tondo, Manila, in 1893, Nepomuceno is known as the “Father of Philippine Movie Industry.” He produced the first silent dramatic feature, “Dalagang Bukid,” and the first local sound film, “Punyal na Ginto.” He died on Dec. 1, 1959, at the age of 66.Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
