3 killed, 14 hurt in Ilocos bus mishap

MANILA, Philippines—At least three were killed and 14 others were injured after a passenger bus met an accident in Burgos, Ilocos Norte before dawn Saturday.

Police Senior Inspector Pedro Barbado Jr. of  Philippine National Police (PNP) in Burgos, Ilocos Norte told INQUIRER.net that a GMW bus with plate number BVD 621 fell into a canal beside the highway at 2:45 a.m.

According to him, the driver, Roel Trinidad,  told the police that he lost control of the bus after someone threw a stone on its winshield.

He said the GMW bus from Cagayan  was bound for Vigan City in Ilocos Sur.

The fatalities were identified as Hilda Subok, 29; Jill Dacuyag, 19; and Beverly Pama, 22.

The driver, who is now in the custody of police authorities, was charged with reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and serious physical injury and damage to property.

GMW Trans Inc. is a sister company of the ill-fated Florida bus transport that killed at least 14 people including comedian Tado Jimenez last February.
