MANILA, Philippines—Malacañang expressed gratitude to former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) chairperson Margarita Juico for her “dedicated service” following her resignation on Thursday.
“President [Benigno] Aquino III thanks outgoing PCSO Chairperson Margarita Juico for her dedicated service to the government and the Filipino people,” Presidential Secretary Herminio Coloma said Friday in a text message to reporters.
Juico tendered her resignation to “spend more time with her family.”
Juico said in a previous Philippine Daily Inquirer report that she was leaving the PCSO in sound financial condition, with a P16-billion cash position and with 38 branches nationwide to service as many indigent Filipinos in need of medical services.
She was appointed by Aquino as the PCSO chair in 2010.
In compliance with the “established procedures,” Coloma said the President has yet to issue a formal written acceptance of Juico’s resignation before it would take effect.
“She also served with (former) President Corazon Aquino all throughout her presidency, then went on to serve in the PCSO board in the succeeding administrations. As an esteemed family friend, President Aquino wishes her well on her decision to end her stint in public service,” he added.
Juico was the social secretary of Aquino’s mother, the late President Corazon Aquino, and served for 17 years on the PCSO board.
