MANILA, Philippines—A 31-year-old law graduate from the University of Cagayan Valley was found dead inside his room at an apartment in Sampaloc, Manila, with the police looking into the possibility that he suffered a heat stroke.
Edmar Dilig was set to attend review classes at the University of Santo Tomas for this year’s bar exams when he died. His body was found around 10 a.m. Thursday by Remedios Cruz, the owner of the apartment on Loyola Street, said homicide investigator SPO1 Mario Asilo.
Cruz told the police that she decided to check on the victim after she smelled a foul odor coming from Dilig’s room. She added that she last saw him at noon on Wednesday after he had returned to the house from an earlier appointment.
Asilo said that Cruz had also told them that Dilig had been her boarder since April 28 shortly after he arrived in Manila from Tuao, Cagayan Valley. Aside from heat stroke, investigators were also trying to determine if Dilig suffered from a deadly skin disease as there were visible scars and wounds on his upper body.
There were no other signs, however, of injuries although there was blood coming out of his nose and mouth.—Maricar B. Brizuela
