Today, May 9, is the ninth death anniversary of National Artist for Visual Arts Ang Kiukok. Born on March 1, 1931, Ang was conferred the National Artist award in 2001. Among his famous works were the “Geometric Landscape,” the “Seated Figure” and the “Pieta,” which won the bronze medal in the first International Art Exhibition in Saigon in 1962. He died in 2005 at the age of 74.—Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
