MANILA, Philippines—Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin on Thursday visited the Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center (V. Luna) in Quezon City to check on the victims of the fire and blast that rocked a military compound in Fort Bonifacio.
“Gagawin namin lahat ng aming makakaya. Kung hindi man kakayanin, hihingi tayo ng tulong sa mga ibang agencies tulad ng DoH (Department of Health) (We’ll do everything we can. If we fall short, we’ll seek help from other agencies like the DoH),” said Gazmin in a statement.
On Wednesday, a blast rocked the explosives and ordinance (EOD) battalion barracks of the Philippine Army in Taguig City after a fire broke out. At least 30 soldiers, fire fighters and volunteers were injured.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
President Benigno Aquino III issued instructions to help the victims at all cost.
Health Secretary Enrique Ona was also present to assess the condition of the patients and also discussed the possible transfer to other government hospitals to speed up their recovery.
