25 injured in armory fire as bomb squads clear area

MANILA, Philippines – Nearly seven hours after fire hit the armory at the Philippine Army Headquarters in Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City, bomb squads have been checking the area for undetonated explosive devices.

Members of the Explosive Ordnance Division have been surveying the premises in pairs.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

A television report said the scene of the fire has since been cordoned off.

Quoting Army officials, the report said it may take up to three days to clear the area.

As of posting time, the number of injured from the fire and series of explosions has risen to 25, said Lieutenant Colonel Noel Detoyato, Army spokesman.
