MANILA, Philippines—A car parked for nearly a week outside the gate of a Quezon City subdivision was found to have over a hundred rounds of automatic rifle ammunition hidden inside, posing a puzzle to the police.
The silver gray Honda (WCG-233) had been parked since April 30 outside the south gate of Blue Ridge Subdivision, at the corner of Highland Drive and Boni Serrano Avenue in Barangay (village) Blue Ridge.
On Monday morning, Barangay Councilor Rey Papa finally reported the abandoned vehicle to the Quezon City Police District’s Project 4 station, after seeing some ammunition rounds in the backseat.
Station commander Supt. Danilo Pecaña said the car, when searched, yielded four fully loaded magazines for an M-16 automatic rifle.
A check with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) showed that the car was registered to Isabelita Chen, a Quezon City resident but not a homeowner in Blue Ridge, Pecana said.
“We are still trying to get in touch with the car’s registered owner to find out why it was abandoned,” Pecaña said. “It was parked properly and did not appear at all like it was left there in haste.”
The car was turned over to the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame for further examination while the ammunition rounds remained with the Project 4 station.
