MANILA, Philippines— The Comission on Elections (Comelec) kicked off Tuesday morning its “Walkah Walkah” campaign in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte to educate and engage the public on the importance of voter registration.
The Walkah Walkah campaign, aimed to inform, engage, and educate the public about the importance of the voter registration and validation process, will cover the entire Luzon from Laoag City in Ilocos Norte to Matnog town in Sorsogon.
Early this Tuesday, Comelec officials led by Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes started the walking expedition along with hundreds of participants.
“Around 8:00 a.m., we started the walk from Laoag together with Chairman Brillantes then we stopped in San Nicolas town to do a voter education,” Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said in an interview over Radyo Inquirer 990AM.
Jimenez said a voter education clinic was held to mobilize voters and encourage them to go to registration centers where their biometric information could be taken.
According to him there are around nine million voters without biometrics adding that they are expecting three million new voter regitrants.
The walk from Laoag to Manila, he said, would take one month and another one month would be spent from Manila to Matnog. He said the entire expedition covered a 1,200-kilometer stretch.
“Lahat ng ito ay tungo sa pagmumulat ng mga botante natin,” he said.
(All of this is to raise awareness among our voters.)
