MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Monday confirmed the appointment of former senator Francis Pangilinan as presidential assistant for food security.

“Former Senator Pangilinan has been appointed as Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization, with Cabinet rank,” said Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma in a text message to media.

Coloma said the post is similar to rehabilitation czar Panfilo Lacson’s position.

“Hence, he will also hold the title of Secretary,” he added.

Coloma said Pangilinan will take his oath before President Benigno Aquino III on Tuesday afternoon.
