Today, May 5, is the 10th death anniversary of National Artist for Music Jose M. Maceda. Born on Jan. 31, 1917, in Manila, Maceda was a composer, musicologist, teacher and performer. Because of his efforts, the study of Philippine instruments became a part of the curriculum of music schools in the country. He was named National Artist in 1997.
