Alyssa Denisse David

MANILA, Philippines—Alyssa Denisse David’s ailment stopped her from going to school for two years although she is determined to enroll as a high school sophomore this coming school year.

The 17-year-old was afflicted in 2011 with aplastic anemia, a blood disorder in which the body’s bone marrow fails to produce enough new blood cells. The red blood cells are also below normal levels, causing the patient to experience weakness and low resistance to diseases.

Alyssa’s mother, Lea, who raised her by herself, said that her daughter needs P40,000 for blood transfusions a month so that her dream of going back to school would be realized.

Lea David can be contacted at 0928-7961416. For donations, her BPI account number is 1946093095.—Santiago R. Alcantara
