Bus falls into ravine
At least six passengers were killed when a bus fell into a ravine in the village of Anonang in Aurora town at noon on Sunday.
Aurora Mayor Boen Cabahug told the Inquirer by phone that he received reports that several wounded passengers were brought to hospitals in Kapatagan town, Lanao del Norte province, and Ozamiz City.
Cabahug said the municipal police was still investigating the cause of the accident.

Disaster volunteers
A communication group of 100 chapter volunteers in the country has renewed its commitment to be of service 24/7 during emergency situations.
“We will continue with our close coordination with the authorities concerning natural and man-made calamities to ensure instant relief and rehabilitation to affected individuals,” said Florencio Matus Jr., newly installed national president of Radio Emergency Communication Operations Network (Recon).
As the host organization, Recon chapter president Ramil Masukat urged continued vigilance in reporting mishaps, violence, fire and other untoward incidents and calamities to alert concerned authorities for prompt action on these emergencies.

14 dengue deaths
Fourteen people died of dengue fever in Central Mindanao during the first quarter, the Department of Health’s Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit reported.
A total of 1,291 dengue cases were recorded, or 51 percent lower than the 2,612 cases in the same period last year in North Cotabato, South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat provinces, and Cotabato, Kidapawan, Tacurong, Koronadal and General Santos cities.

Man in shooting yields
A man suspected of shooting and wounding a town mayor in Kalinga province on Saturday surrendered to police in this city on Sunday night.
Kitkiti Suyam gave himself up with the help of Basao tribe leaders led by Fr. Luis Ao-as and engineer Andres Ngao-i, said Supt. Victor Wanchakan, Kalinga provincial police director.
Suyam is suspected of shooting Pasil Mayor James Edduba on April 26 in Barangay (village) Lucog here when the latter alighted from his car to check on the dog that his vehicle had run over.
