Art, music, book sale mark Earth Day at Arroceros park

The Earth Day celebration at Arroceros Forest Park in Manila on April 26 will feature a poster design competition among students from the De La Salle University (DLSU)-College of Saint Benilde School of Design Arts, with this year’s theme, “Greening the Earth.”

Sponsoring the prizes for the Top 3 winners, the Ernesto Rufino family, whose members include DLSU alumni spanning four generations, has donated prizes through their firm Health Maintenance Inc.

Other features of the event, which starts at 10 a.m., are buskers (itinerant musicians), “White Elephant” booths of books, magazines and curios, food stalls and plant sales.

Street children under the care of Child Hope Asia will offer a song-and-dance number. Father John Leydon of Malate Parish will celebrate Mass at 2 p.m.

Other sponsors include Coca-Cola Philippines and Jollibee. The Winner Foundation, chaired by Regina Paterno, serves as custodian of the park.

Also participating in the Earth Day activities are the Makati Garden Club, Catholic Women’s Club, Orchid Garden Hotel, Malu Veloso and the DLSU-College of Saint Benilde School of Design Arts students.

The public is invited to join and bring hammocks and mats for picnics under the shade at Arroceros Forest Park.
