Palace welcomes extension of TRO on power rate hike
MANILA, Philippines – Both the public and Malacañang heaved a sigh of relief on Tuesday following the Supreme Court’s extension of the temporary restraining order (TRO) issued against the power rate increase.
“We welcome the decision of the Supreme Court that while we wait for a final decision on the case, an extension of the TRO would certainly provide comfort to our countrymen especially at this time when there is more consumption demand during summer,” Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said in a statement to media.
Earlier in the day, the high court announced its indefinite extension of the TRO against Manila Electric Company’s (Meralco’s) P4.15 per kilowatt hour rate hike.
It is the second time that the TRO, which was supposed to expire on Tuesday, was extended after it was initially issued on December 23, 2013.
