MANILA—A man was arrested for exhibitionism on Tuesday when he went to the Quezon City Police District headquarters in Camp Karingal and showed his genitals to a female staff member.

Esteve Mortega, 27, a resident of Barangay (village) Botocan, was promptly collared after the staffer complained that he displayed his private parts to her  around 9 a.m.

QCPD spokesperson Senior Insp. Maricar Taqueban said the man claimed to be seeking help in burying his dead child but was unable to show any death certificate.

Police investigators were preparing a charge of unjust vexation case against the suspect, although it was up to the complainant if she would press the charge.

Taqueban said the suspect was using illegal drugs and would often ask money from a relative, a QCPD policeman.

Initial investigation showed Mortega slipped into the QCPD library, where a 40-year-old female staff member was sweeping the floor at that time. There were two other trainees inside as well.

The woman said the suspect asked for some water from a dispenser, after which he sat inside the library.

The man then asked if he could read, after which he went to the shelves.

“He then called me to the shelves to pretend to ask something, so I walked toward him. He had a book in his hand and dropped it on purpose,” the woman said.

As the woman stooped down to pick it up, she was shocked to see the man’s shorts down and his genitals hanging out.

The woman quickly ran out of the library and sought help from policemen in nearby units, leading to Mortega’s arrest and subsequent detention at the Women and Children Protection Desk.
