The President’s heavy cross

/ 02:31 AM April 22, 2014

President Noy, in his Easter message, vowed to step up the fight against corruption in government until the remainder of his term in 2016.

The people are sure that the President spent Holy Week contemplating on what he has done for the country in his four years in office, as well as his sins.

Like the rest of us, P-Noy has his share of sins—going by the Catholic doctrine that mistakes are sins—but committing graft and corruption is definitely not one of them.

The people know the President is as pure as the driven snow.

However, because he’s not doing anything about corrupt or inefficient people in his administration, then he has also sinned. He is guilty of the sin of omission.

The President carries a heavy cross in the person of Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr., as well as Ninoy Aquino International Airport General Manager Angel Jose Honrado, Metropolitan Development Authority Chair Francis Tolentino, Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya and National Resources Secretary Ramon Paje, among many others.

If he gets rid of these people, the heavy cross he carries will become more bearable. But P-Noy wants a heavy cross since he thinks, like most Catholics, that he’s imitating the passion of Christ.

Religious convictions should be set aside in running a country since the burden of the heavy cross is passed on to the people.

Coloma is the proverbial white bird roosting on top of a carabao, but thinks it is the carabao.

His insolence showed when he defended Malacañang from Metro Rail Transit (MRT) commuters who were complaining about the long queues at the stations of the congested railway system.

Instead of telling them to just be patient because something was being done to address their woes, Coloma said that they could take the bus, taxi or jeepney if they were in a hurry.

And this guy was talking on behalf of the President who is fond of saying that the ordinary person is his “Boss.”

Where in the world can you find a President who takes the rap for an inefficient minor bureaucrat?

Only in the Philippines!

P-Noy apologized to passengers at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia)  for the busted air-conditioning system that made them feel like they were inside a furnace.

P-Noy was apologizing on behalf of his do-nothing and good-for-nothing Naia general manager, Honrado, who should have fixed the air-conditioning a long time ago.

Why did P-Noy appoint Honrado to run a complex organization like Naia when his only expertise is flying a helicopter?

Honrado is a retired Air Force general but he never held a position where he commanded a big unit; he was always the second in command which made him a gofer or “utusan” (servant).

MMDA Chair Tolentino and Transportation Secretary Abaya, on the other hand, should both be sacked for the delay in the reblocking work at Edsa which caused a huge traffic jam.

The reblocking should have been finished at 5 a.m. Monday, but work was still going on as of this writing at 5 p.m. Monday.

Expect floods in the rainy season because Natural Resources Secretary Paje is sleeping on the job. He doesn’t care because he’s allegedly under the protection of a religious sect.
