THE winners of the 2011 Central Visayas regional invention contests and exhibits were revealed during the closing ceremonies held recently at the Activity Center of Ayala Center Cebu.
Among the 25 entries, two qualified for the national invention contests and exhibits (NICE) in Manila next year.
The NICE qualifiers are Engr. Grecilda Sanchez-Zaballero under the creative research (likha) category for her soya extract and lactobacillus to moist wound healing, and Ralph Cabrera under the industrial design category for his plastic double cavity stanchion. Both received a certificate of appreciation and a cash prize of P10,000 and P15,000 respectively.
Five entries also emerged runner-ups. They each received a certificate of appreciation and P5,000 cash. These are the “Muzzle Up: An interactive game with projectile motion applications for secondary level schools” by the students of the Philippine Science High School Argao; “Applications of Ptergoplichthys parolis in biosorption of heavy metal pollutans and biofilm encapsulated pathogens” by Anthon Mark Jay Rivas and Emil Keith Antonio of University of San Carlos; Trashkad by Junver Libor, Joseph Joel Guardiario, James Fornis, Klint Bernas and Joshua Arenas of University of San Carlos; multiple fired steam boiler by engineer Noro Camomot; and Arata lounge chair by Vito Selma.
The board of judges were Dr. Evangeline Evangelista, dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture in CIT-U; engineer Eric Paden, area manager for IPO Satellite Office in Visayas; and Dr. Danilo Jaque, president of Hydronet Consultants Inc.
The Central Visayas regional invention contests and exhibits is a support initiative of the Department of Science and Technology through the Technology Application and Promotion Institute.
