Drunk, raging QC cop killed after ramming bike into peers’ patrol car

A policeman was killed after accidentally ramming his motorcycle into the patrol car of his colleagues who came to pacify him after he caused a disturbance in his Quezon City neighborhood on Good Friday.

Police Officer 1 Israel Ugalde, 31, who reported to the Quezon City Police District’s Batasan Hills station, was pronounced dead the next day at the Armed Forces of the Philippines  Medical Center, where he was brought for massive head injuries.

According to station commander Supt. Eleazar Matta, his men rushed to Area 5, Luzon Avenue, in Barangay Old Balara around 4 p.m. Friday after Ugalde’s neighbor Elvie Hillado sought police protection against a drunk Ugalde.

Hillado claimed that she and members of her family were inside their house when Ugalde showed up at the doorstep and started shouting for her to come out. In a raging fit, the policeman also damaged parts of her house, she said.

The Batasan station team arrived and tried to pacify Ugalde, but they were ignored by the man, Matta told the Inquirer. “He was really drunk. He got on his motorcycle and drove back and forth along Luzon Avenue.”

On the approach back to Hillado’s house, Ugalde lost control of his motorcycle and hit his colleagues’ patrol car which was then parked, the impact throwing him off his bike, the station commander said.

Ugalde was brought by his colleagues first to Malvar General Hospital, then to Camp Crame Hospital and later to AFP Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
