Carbon monoxide leak suffocates 20 in Catbalogan City

MANILA, Philippines – A carbon monoxide leak from a generator set sickened participants of a Department of Education meeting on Wednesday in Catbalogan City, Samar.

At least 20 of the 45 participants complained of dizziness, breathlessness and chest pains after inhaling carbon monoxide that leaked from the generator set used for the meeting, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

Others also complained of nausea and dizziness, the NDRRMC added.

The victims were rushed to the Samar Provincial Hospital for treatment.
