MMDA: Avoid Edsa, take alternate routes

MANILA, Philippines–As the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) started the concrete reblocking and repair of Edsa yesterday, motorists were advised to avoid the busy thoroughfare altogether and take alternate routes.

Based on a traffic advisory issued by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), northbound motorists from Cubao, Quezon City, particularly passenger buses headed for the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx), may take New York Street, turn right on Harvard, left on Aurora Boulevard, right on 20th Avenue, left on Col. Bonny Serrano Avenue and then turn left on Katipunan Avenue.

They may also take E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue, turn right on G. Araneta Avenue and go straight to Sgt. Rivera Avenue, before turning right on A. Bonifacio Avenue toward their destination.

Those coming from Pasay City and headed for NLEx may take Roxas Boulevard, turn right on President Quirino Avenue, go straight to Nagtahan Bridge,  turn right on R. Magsaysay Boulevard, turn left on G. Araneta Avenue, go straight to Sgt. Rivera and turn right on A. Bonifacio Avenue.

For southbound motorists from Cubao bound for the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx), they may take Aurora Boulevard to reach Osmeña Highway and then SLEx.

MMDA Chair Francis Tolentino earlier announced that traffic constables would not apprehend bus drivers who do not take the alternate routes.

Work on Edsa’s northbound side started yesterday and would end on Good Friday. The repairs will then shift to the southbound side on Good Friday up to Monday morning. Niña P. Calleja
