Romblon mining site collapses; 3 killed

MANILA, Philippines–Three people were killed in a mining site that collapsed in Romblon on Wednesday, a regional office of civil defense said.

Three persons believed [to be] engaged in illegal mining were buried on the ground when the mining site collapsed in Dulangan village in Magdiwang town at about 9 a.m., the Office of Civil Defense Region IV-B said in a report.

The fatalities were identified as Noriel Rapada, 25; Louie Valencia, 21. Both were residents of Dulangan. Ernesto Dalida, 37, meanwhile is from Jasan village on the same town of the mining site.

“Said victims were brought to Magdiwang Rural Health Unit for medical treatment but were pronounced dead by Dra. Rowena Rey Dianco,” the OCD IV-B said.
