Today, April 16, is the 122nd birth anniversary of outstanding restaurateur and exponent of Filipino cuisine Engracia Reyes. Known as the “mother of Filipino cooking,” Reyes was born in Navotas in 1892 and later received  the “Mother of the Year” award from President Ramon Magsaysay. The Aling Asiang Gintong Ina Award for Outstanding Mother of the Year award was also established in her honor in 1982 while a street in Ermita was named after her. Reyes died on July 6, 1975.
