Dry areas and water-saving tips

MANILA, Philippines—Just a reminder.

For those stuck in Metro Manila during the Lenten season, bear in mind that Maynilad would cut off their water supply, but fret no more as there are still ways to save the precious resource.

Maynilad would reroute their water pipes in accordance with the flood control projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways and could cut off the water supply from one day to three days, which would start on Holy Wednesday until Good Friday.

Caloocan, Malabon, Manila, and Navotas would be dry for three days, with some parts of the capital city to experience dry taps for two days.

Makati, Pasay, Cavite City, Noveleta, Bacoor, Kawit, Imus, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, and Parañaque would have the dry taps for a couple of days.

Tips

Despite the water interruption, Maynilad Water Services Inc. gave tips on saving the resource during the dry times.

* Drinking water should be stored in clean and disinfected containers that can be closed securely.

* Freeze water for additional supply during the water service interruption. Once melted, the ice can be used for cooking or drinking.

* Store containers in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight because light and warmth promote algae and bacteria growth.

* Water stored in plastic containers should be kept away from gasoline, kerosene, pesticides or similar substances because vapors from these products can penetrate plastic.

* Never store water in containers that were previously used to store toxic substances.

* To avoid water contamination, clean cisterns, drums and overhead tanks before filling them with water.

* Empty household bleach bottles can be used to store water for cleaning.

* Use clean food-grade containers to store water for cooking and drinking.

* Disinfected plastic soda bottles, glass canning jars and juice bottles can be used to store water for drinking and cooking.
