Bus driver suffers stroke while waiting for Pacquiao fight to start

MANILA, Philippines—A middle-aged bus driver died quite suddenly on Sunday in Quezon City as he was waiting for the match of boxing champ Manny Pacquiao.

Dare Lopez, 52, did not make it alive to Quirino Memorial Medical Center after he fell unconscious at a covered court where Pacquiao’s fight with Timothy Bradley was about to air.

Case investigator PO2 Anthony Tejerero noted that although the autopsy results have yet to be released, the victim, a bus driver for Isarog Lines, might have died due to a stroke. “The family said the victim had suffered four strokes before and had a history of hypertension. He was constantly taking medicines for it,” the police officer said.

The incident happened at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday at a covered court in Barangay (village) San Martin de Porres, Cubao, where a free public viewing of the Pacquiao bout was being offered.
