Muntinlupa gov’t allots P63M for scholarship program
MANILA, Philippines—Poor but deserving Muntinlupa students will be a getting a much-needed boost as the city government nearly tripled the budget for its scholarship program.
Mayor Jaime Fresnedi recently announced a P63-million budget for the city’s scholars this year, almost thrice the previous allocation of P21.5 million. Of the amount, around P50 million will go to the Muntinlupa Scholarship Program for elementary, high school and college students.
A total of 340 applied for college scholarships this year but only 61 met the requirements that will make them eligible to receive up to P30,000 per semester. Around P13 million was allotted for scholars in the city-run Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (PLMun) alone.—Jaymee T. Gamil
