MANILA, Philippines- The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday placed all its units in the country under heightened alert to ensure the safety of the public this coming Holy Week.
PNP Highway Patrol Group (HPG) Superintendent Elizabeth Velasquez said the PNP has started to install police booth at the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) and at the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) for motorists assistance.
Velasquez said that desk centers and road safety marshals would be deployed in bus terminals, airports, seaports and in major highways for safety and maximum police visibility.
Early Friday, the HPG conducted inspection on bus terminals at the Araneta Center in Cubao to ensure safety compliance of bus companies, especially provincial buses.
Chief Superintendent Theodore Reuben Sindac of the PNP, meanwhile, said they have not received any information of a terrorist threat.
“We are continuously validating and monitoring. As of this date, no terrorist threat or emergency cases has been reported to us,” he said in a press briefing.
He said the PNP Headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City is now coordinating with its local police and with Local Government Units (LGUs) across the country to ensure peace and order during the Lenten season.
On Thursday, Velasquez reminded motorists to check on their vehicles “BLOWBAGS” or brake, lights, oil, water, battery, air, gas and self.
She also said that the public should remember police hotlines to alert authorities in case of emergency.
