Did you know: Alfredo Santos

National Scientist and pharmacist Alfredo Santos died on April 11, 1990. Known as the “Father of Natural Products Research in the Philippines,” his works contributed immensely to phytochemistry. Born on Aug. 15, 1900, Santos received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the UP Alumni Association in 1957 and was named Most Outstanding Scientist by the Philippine Association for the Advancement of Science in 1974. He was conferred the title and rank of National Scientist on July 10, 1978.—Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
