MANILA, Philippines–As the country celebrates the “Araw ng Kagitingan,” a national holiday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said the number-coding scheme for motorists will be lifted tomorrow, Wednesday.
In its advisory, the MMDA said that the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program is automatically lifted.
“Number Coding is lifted tomorrow (April 9, 2014) for the celebration of Araw ng Kagitingan,” the MMDA announced.
On a regular Wednesday, plate numbers ending in 5 and 6 are prohibited to ply major thoroughfares from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Aiming to ease the traffic in the metropolis, the MMDA implemented a number coding-scheme banning vehicles on major roads once a week depending on the last digit of their license plates.
