Aquino greets news of Shalani’s engagement with a smile

MANILA, Philippines—President Benigno Aquino III smiled when he was told of Valenzuela Councilor Shalani Soledad’s engagement to Pasig Representative Roman Romulo, his spokesman said Thursday.

“I’m not aware,” Edwin Lacierda quoted Mr. Aquino as saying after Lacierda informed him of the engagement.

Lacierda said the President smiled when he received the information during a break in a meeting at Malacañang on Wednesday afternoon.

Soledad is a former girlfriend of President Aquino’s. They broke up a few months into the Aquino presidency.
